What's up with alternate names?

To save resources (arguably the Earth), I suppose folks should have fewer alternate names (or aliases) as possible. I realize I'm oversimplifying, but fewer alternate names = fewer records = less physical data storage/less paper etc.

Case in point, the many alternate names for actress Crystal Liu Yi Fei:

• Birth Name: An Feng (安风)
• Alternate Names: Liu Yi Fei (刘亦菲 or 劉亦菲), Crystal Liu, Liu Yi-fei, Liu Yifei, Liú Yìfēi, Liu Xi Mei Zi (刘茜美子), Liu Xi Meizi, Liu Ximeizi, Liu Qian Mei Zi, Liu Qian Meizi, Xixi, Qianqian, Ling Er, Xiao Bao Zhi, Baozi, イーフェイ (Japanese translation), Lau Yik Fei (Cantonese translation), Lưu Diệc Phi (Vietnamese translation)
  

And more recently, Liu Ye Fei. Hence, my old beta blog, LIU-YEFEI.COM.

Another case in point, is Shu Qi. Check out her many alternate names at www.shu-qi.mobi.

Hey, I'm just expressing an opinion, hence this is a personal blog.  I guess I'm nostalgic for the days when I was updating NataliePortman.Org.  It was either Natalie Portman (stage name) or Natalie Hershlag (real name).
